SLP Outside the Box was founded by Lakisha Dawkins, a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with over 10 years of experience serving adults in outpatient rehabilitation and private practice settings. Throughout her professional journey, Lakisha has felt a deep sense of calling to support adults as they navigate communication and cognitive changes—recognizing communication not only as a clinical skill, but as a vital part of identity, connection, and dignity. Her work is grounded in the belief that every person is created with purpose and deserves opportunities to continue growing, participating, and being heard at every stage of life.
While Lakisha values the role of skilled speech therapy, she consistently observed a gap once therapy ended—when individuals were discharged but still needed encouragement, practical strategies, and a supportive community to continue moving forward. Through prayerful reflection and professional discernment, SLP Outside the Box was created to serve adults beyond the limits of traditional medical models. Lakisha’s approach emphasizes education, empowerment, and stewardship of one’s abilities, focusing on what individuals can do and how they can continue to engage meaningfully in their daily lives. She believes growth does not end when therapy concludes, and that community, encouragement, and purposeful practice are powerful tools for wellness.
As Founder and Program Director, Lakisha leads SLP Outside the Box with integrity, compassion, and excellence—committed to creating welcoming spaces that honor faith, foster connection, and support continued communication and cognitive wellness outside the clinic walls.
